A Research on the Student¢¥s Knowledge and Attitudes for the Family Planning in Chungnam Province


Abstract
This study was conducted to evaluate the knowledge and attitudes concerning the family planning of the college students in Chungnam Province. A survey questionaire was distributed to the junior students, except medical students, during periods from August 29th to September 3rd, 1977.
The results obtained are summarized as follows:
1. The average ideal age of marriage was 27.5 years in male and was 24.6 years in female students, and the desired age difference to the marriage partner was 3.3 years in male and was 3.4 years in female students, respectively.
2. In the wanted numbers of children, two son-one daughter and one son-one daughter were similar high ratio in male students, but one son-one daughter was very high ratio in female students. The ideal birth interval was 2.7 years in male, while 2. 8 years in female students.
3. Most students had been heard about the family planning and its knowledge had been obtained from radio and T.V., magazine and dictionary or special books in that order. However, female students had been understood more accurately about the term of the family planning than male students.
4. The methods of the family planning to be recognized by students were condom, orall¡þpill, artificial abortion and vasectomy in that order. However, the condom was the first order in male students while the oral-pill in female students.
5. Most students had been made a subject of discussion about the marriage and family planning during free talking among the friends. However, many students were desired to get more information about the family planning from the specially trained persons.
6. Most students were agree with the family planning and the family planning methods to be desired the oral-pill was the first order in male, while the rhythmic method in female students. The most reasonable educational method to recommend the family planning was not a special opinion, but the movie and projector was first order.
7. In case of students having no son, most male students was refused the application of the family planning but female students was agreed with it. If the spouse will oppose the birth control, many male students wanted more to applicate it than female students. And also male students may be considered that the son was more important than the daughter.
8. Most students has been heard about the induced abortion but the half of them were recognized to the most unsuitable methods of the family planning because they though it was injurious to the human body.
